For decades, 5 Points has been a haven for those in our community who have felt excluded elsewhere. The rainbow crosswalks aim to secure this place in our community to welcome and uplift anyone who needs it.

This project is endorsed by Councilman Jimmy Peluso, City Council District 7, Five Points Merchant Association, and the AIDS Memorial Project of Northeast Florida.

While only a symbol, we hope that the rainbow-painted crosswalks in 5 Points will uplift all in our community who value love and make a difference to someone in need of encouragement. The proximity of 5 Points to Willowbranch Park & Library where the Jacksonville Pride movement began to the current headquarters of JASMYN, as well as the annual River City Pride parade, is the basis for the location.

This project is a meaningful and beautiful addition to our streets… I encourage all members of our community to support this initiative and join us in celebrating diversity and love through this symbolic art installation.” – Councilman Jimmy Peluso

The Board of Directors of AIDS Memorial Project of Northeast Florida wishes to extend our enthusiastic support for RAP’s “pride painted crosswalk project” in 5 Points. In particular, we are so grateful to RAP for taking the lead on this initiative of community inclusivity which will serve as a visual way to create a safer and more accepting and vibrant environment.” – Board of AIDS Memorial Project of Northeast Florida

The rainbow crosswalks serve as a powerful form of placemaking, transforming a neighborhood street into a symbol of inclusion and community pride. By spearheading this project, we are enhancing the visual landscape and sending a clear message of acceptance. I am proud to be a part of this initiative, which celebrates our commitment to creating welcoming spaces for all!” – Kandice Clark, RAP Creative Placemaker

At Heartspace Art, we believe in the power of art to unite and inspire communities. Supporting the LGBTQ+ community through our work reflects our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the celebration of every individual’s unique identity. This project is especially important to us because we love Jacksonville and want to contribute to its spirit of unity and acceptance for all.” – Heartspace Art
