Five Points is a cultural hub for Jacksonville and a destination for residents and tourists who seek delicious food, craft beer and cocktails, dancing, and unique independent retailers. Extensive upgrades are underway, including the addition of branded lamppost banners, custom-wrapped Big Belly trash cans, painted crosswalks, and power washing.

In addition, re-landscaping 5 Points will be underway on November 18-19, 2024, from 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on both days. Signage and minimal closing/blocking off parking spots will be posted as work progresses.
This project is led by Riverside Avondale Preservation with partners from JEA, Councilmember Jimmy Peluso, Wacca Pilatka, and the 5 Points Association. The re-landscaping is necessary because the Palm trees installed in 2009 have reached capacity in height and width, impacting the planters and powerlines. Further, the sabal Palms in front of the Five Points Theatre Building are out of balance with the remainder of Palms on the block. The recent upgrades along Lomax Street completed in 2022 incorporate a new plant palette, different from Park Street. Further, the lack of irrigation has led to mixed survival of all ground cover and foliage.
The relandscaping will begin with:
- Removal of existing Palm trees in 5 Points from partners at JEA (November 2024)
- Replacement tree installation to include Winged Elm, which mirror the trees along Lomax Street and Eagleston Holly trees. The Eagleston Holly trees are smaller and will resemble the size of the existing Crape Myrtle trees. In addition, this Florida Native tree offers small red pops of color within its green foliage. (COJ Dep’t of Urban Forestry, December 2024)
- Existing dirt will be excavated and healthy soil will be added. (Wacca Pilatka, December 2024)
- Existing groundcover will be removed along Park Street between Post Street and Lomax. (Wacca Pilatka, December 2024)
- Replacement shrubs include firebush and simpson stopper (Wacca Pilatka, December 2024)
- Replacement groundcover includes lily turf, coontie, gamma grass, and perennial peanut (also mirroring Lomax Street)
- Monthly ongoing maintenance will check for plant survival, weed and maintain the landscaping. Plus, Wacca Pilatka will help clean and maintain the sidewalks, landscape beds, and roadway in 5 Points.
The monthly ongoing maintenance for the area is an expense covered by the 5 Points Association, which is funded and supported by Merchant Dues and community support. Please make a donation today to allow us to continue improving 5 Points.
