Wayne Wood

Dr. Wayne Wood is the founder of Riverside Avondale Preservation and originator of the idea for the Riverside Arts Market. He has published multiple books on Jacksonville history and architecture, including Jacksonville’s Architectural Heritage. Called the “godfather” of historic preservation in Jacksonville, Wayne has lived in Riverside Avondale since 1971 and has family roots in the neighborhood. In 2010, he was named one of the 50 most influential people in Northeast Florida by the Florida Times-Union and Folio Weekly called him the “Most Interesting Man in Jacksonville.” Wayne is a retired optometrist and currently working on his 14th book about Jacksonville. Dr. Wood is a permanent ex-officio member of the RAP board.
